About the blog
This blog (active between November 2012 and May 2016) is devoted to from-scratch dessert recipes and baking basics info like how to make homemade vanilla extract and info about flour and sugar. There are tons of pie recipes around these parts, because I just can’t get enough of fresh, seasonal fruit.
All recipes after November 2015 (and a few before then) are vegan, but there are plenty of omnivorous dessert recipes in the archives, accompanied by me swooning over butter and eggs. I didn’t switch to a vegan diet until three years after I started writing Sift & Whisk, and I couldn’t stand to throw away my years of hard work!

Hi, I’m Maria! I really love dessert. Like, a lot. That might be obvious, but I just want to make sure we’re on the same page here. I enjoy the baking process, and I find it cathartic. I love baking for other people, because everyone likes you when you have a plate of cookies. So I’m here bakin’ up some love for me, you, and whoever you want to share with. (But you don’t have to share if you don’t want to.)
I love trying local restaurants, drinking whiskey, watching stand-up comedy, seeing live musicals and dance performances, playing video games, attempting home improvement projects, bingeing on Netflix, and traveling. I am 50% done with about 15 books right now, and I’ll probably never finish them. I have a strange affinity for the macabre. I talk way too much and way too fast and put my foot in my mouth a lot. I’m sarcastic to a fault and enjoy a good pun.
